Lago Maggiore and the fairytale Isola Bella

Italy's second-largest lake, a refreshing dip on a summer's day and an island straight out of a fairytale — Lago Maggiore is a beautiful day trip away.

Alongside Lake Garda, Lago Maggiore is one of the best-known and most beautiful lakes in northern Italy. Lovely for a refreshing dip on a hot summer's day, but also a wonderful area to explore charming little villages.

Isola Bella

Another (touristy) must is a visit to the gorgeous island Isola Bella, right in the middle of the lake. This 'beautiful island' is entirely devoted to the Giardino dell'Amore ('garden of love') with buildings and statues from the 17th century and a unique view over the lake.
